This site is sort of an interactive map application that the visitor can use to select areas of interest such as prefectures, cities, sights, resorts and driven by the menus and functions of the interactive map to collect lots of information regarding locations, history, authorities, tours, accomodation e.t.c. For the best use of this application please read on the following explanatory articles.

The map

The map includes the whole Western Greece Region which consists of three prefectures Achaia, Aitoloakarnania and Eleia. Lots of locations can be seen on the map, each of them is accompanied by a symbol. On the low left corner of the map you can see the "Legend" button that when pressed will present what each symbol stands for. By pressing each symbol on the map the related informations regarding the selected location will be presented on the right area of the application. On the low right corner of the map you can see the "Print Map" button that when pressed will print only the map and not the whole web page.

The map control buttons

You can use the buttons shown on the top right corner of the map to move, zoom in, zoom out the map as well as to center it and reset the zoom. Zooming in will help you see better the names of several locations and zooming out can give you a more panoramic view of the Western Greece Region.

The catalogs

Both in the home page and on the popup buttons on the right side of the map there are links that when pressed will provide catalogs of prefectures, cities, sites, resorts, tours e.t.c. These catalogs provide links to access the information stored for each individual prefecture, city, sight and so on.

The preformentioned catalogs include:

Prefectures: Catalog of the three prefectures of the Western Greeece Region

Cities: Prefecture capitols and main cities

Sights: Archaiological sites and monuments, religious sights (monasteries, churches, byzantine monuments), castles, modern monuments

Resorts: Beaches, ecotourism sites, mountain resorts, natural monuments, alternative tourism

Accomodation: Hotels, campings, rooms to let

The search engine

On the top of the page as well as on the popup buttons of the map there is a link that launches the search engine of the application. The search criteria are quite sophisticated and when used wisely the engine will provide the information needed, faster than navigating through the catalogs or the map.
